Plant production
Our Tissue Culture Centre, located in Jimah, was established in collaboration with the University of Arizona, USA. Initially focused on cultivating high-quality date palm and banana offshoots for local farmers, the Centre has since significantly expanded its expertise, now supporting the production of a diverse range of strategic food crops that align with Oman’s food security goals. This portfolio includes pineapples, potato tubers, strawberries, blueberries, thymes, and even roses. Among our innovative approaches is the introduction of ‘torpedo’ varieties—soil-less trees that are less than a year old—along with in-vitro cultivation, where saplings are nurtured in laboratory conditions within gel-filled tubes. Our Centre’s production capacity has seen exponential growth. From an initial output of 70,000 saplings annually, the Centre has embarked on an ambitious expansion designed to meet the demands of a market eager for crop saplings.
